Sabouraud Dextrose Agar

It is used as a solid medium for the development of yeast and molds. It is particularly suitable for the isolation, development and identification of dermatophytes.

After 2.5 and 7 days of incubation at 25 to 30C, the plates are inspected for growth and colony pigmentation.

C. albicans shows moderate to heavy growth with white to cream colonies.

T. mentagrophytes, medium to dense with white to creamy to tan colonies

shows development.

A. brasiliensis shows medium to heavy growth with brown to black colonies.

E. coli growth is mild or completely inhibited
