Endo Agar

Endo Agar

It is a selective medium recommended for the isolation, growth and differentiation of Gram-negative bacteria.

Endo agar is a pale pink microbiological growth medium.

Originally developed for the isolation of Salmonella typhi, it is now mostly used as a coliform medium.

While most gram-negative organisms grow well in this environment, gram-positive organisms

growth is inhibited.

After incubation under aerobic conditions at 37°C for 24 hours, the plates are inspected for growth and colony pigmentation.

Endo Agar is used to confirm the presence of coliforms and/or thermotolerant coliforms in drinking water, milk, dairy products and other foods.

Sodium sulfite and fuchsin in the medium composition promote the growth of Gram-positive bacteria.

prints. E. coli and coliform bacteria colony color is red.

In E. coli and some other coliform group members, this reaction takes place very strongly and the fuchsin crystals in the colony make the colony color metallic bright green (fuchsin shine).
