Chromogenic E.Coli / Coliform Agar

It is a medium used for the detection of E.coli and other Coliforms in water and food. E.coli can show different growths in blue-turquoise - purple tones in the medium.

Since there is no other bacterial species growing in blue-turquoise-purple shades on this medium, all are considered E. coli.

All other coliform bacteria reproduce in pink (salmon-pink-red tones depending on the type of microorganism).

All colonies are counted as total Coliforms

Blue-turquoise-purple colonies formed as a result of incubation for 18-24 hours in an incubator at 35C+-2C after sowing with the appropriate dilution and spreading method can be considered as E. coli, and salmon-pink-red colonies can be considered as other Coliform group bacteria.

The total number of Coliforms is the sum of blue-purple and pink-salmon-red colonies.
